The second day in Budapest, we went to the City Park (Városliget) It was a bit far from the central, but several interesting attraction were there.

Heroes’ square (H?sök tere) - The Millennium Monument.
Museum of Fine Arts (Szépm?vészeti Múzeum) has a large of European artwork from Greek and Roman times to the present. Especially, Spanish Baroque painting is great.
Vajdahunyad Vára is a castle on a little island on a lake built for the 1898 World Fair. In the winter, the lake is turned into the city’s biggest ice rink. Nowadays it houses an agricultural museum.

In the middle of our visiting in the morning, it started raining And also, it was so cold, so out visit was short and quick except the museum. Because they had really good collections so we had a very good time!

Next, we visited to Budapest Opera. We just saw the building and inside!

So after we checked in the hotel, we started to go sightseeing in the Buda side.

We were so lucky that the temprature on that day was not too bad It was warmer than in Helsinki.

Castle Hill was our first destination. Our first visit was Matthias Churh.Unfortunately, it was under reconstruction, so we couldn’t see over view of this church

This church was built 700 years ago. Then, Turkish occupied so in 1541 the church became the city’s main mosque. In 1686, Turkish expulsion an attempt was made to restore the church in the Baroque style, again this building became the church again. Isnt’t it insteresting? Especially, the inside patterns and design was quite unique.

Fisherman’s Bastion is famous for impressive views across the Danube to Pest. It was built between 1890-1905.

Then, we walked to Budapest Historial Museum. Since Buda castle was destoryed during WWII, they did not show from the castle. Inside of the museum Medieval castle was shown. It was quite huge remaining and interesting to see them.

It was already raining a bit, so we decided to go shopping Andreas wanted to buy a couple of shirts, so he tried some shirt on at H&M!

I was so happy after one day in Budapest

I went to Budapest with Sanae-san and Andreas , I was so curious about Hungary because…I had a friend from Hungary when I was a first year of elementary student. It was good time to escape from Finland and a good deal too, hehehe.

BUT one accident was happened. When we got in the plane, there was a police car…Why why why…I was talking with my friends. We were a bit worried about this happening One criminal guy was getting kicked out from the FInland….so yeah, we took the same plane with that guy It was only two hours so it was okay

let’s go to Hungary, yay!

One thing I was very happy was that the flight attendant was very nice and smiley It is unlikely to get  this kind of friendly thing in Finland. My friend and I were feeling so good in the plane

Then, we immediately went to the city center by train and bus The train was remaining from Soviet Union era. I can realize from this looking.

Budapest travel tips from Andreas’s mom

Drive on the Ring with trams 4 or 6 from Pest to Buda, on its way you can see the Western Railway Station. Get familiar with the city without walking. Both follow the same route. On one direction they cross the river on the Petofi bridge and in the other direction cross the river on the Margit bridge.

(The trams stops in Blaha Lutska Ter close to the hotels I recomended)

Drive by the river on the Pest side with tram 2. See the Vigado Concert Hall and buildings around the platz and the Chain bridge (Erzsebet hld) in front of Roosevelt Platz, there you can see also the Gresham Palace and the Magyar Akademia of Ciencies and the buildings close by. From the platz goes the Zrinyl Street thar takes you to the Szent Istvan ter (Saint Stephen’s Basilika and platz) a very big
church.

Drive by river on the Buda side with tram 19 or 41. You take this if you go to see folk dances at the Budai Vigado Theater.

Tram o bus? 5 and 78 from Ferenciek Ter, (metro station blue line) crosses the river on the Erzsebet hld (chain bridge) and goes up the hill to the Buda Castle (Royal Palace). See the Buda castle and its surround area, if you want, see the Hungarian National Gallery, there in the castle. Bus 16 takes you to the Fishermen’s Bastion and the Mathias Church. Seeing both is a must as well as the Buda castle and the Parliament. The Bastion is free but you have to pay a fee for entering the church.

The Parliament Building is on the riverside of Pest. You can see its inside with a fee. In front it is the Museum of Etnography. The Platz is beautiful. There is a small park where you can rest a little. Kossuth Ter (red line) is the closest Metro station but Nyugati Station (red line) is not very far.

Museum of Applied Arts (Iparmuveszeti Museum), Metro Ferenc krt station (blue line) or tram 4. The building is beautiful and the objects inside worthwhile seeing. The information is also in English. We saw, in a hall close to the bathrooms and the library. photos of the restauration of some objects. We asked the librarian what have happened, why the objects were so damaged and she said that it was by the war, a bomb on the building where the objects were.

Great Market Hall, close to the Puente Szabadsad and Kalvin Ter metro station (blue line). It is a very beautiful building. In the first floor food is sold (interesting) and in the second floor souvenirs, tablecloths, blouses, etc. (enbroidery by hand).

From the market you can go all the pedestrian Vaci street to one of the entrance of the Deak Feren Ter Metro station and in this platz you see the Gerbeaud pastry hall. The Street is worthwhile walking, has a lot of stores, restaurants, and nice modern buildings. The cakes at the famous pastry hall (Pastelería) Gerbeaud are very good and the building is very beautiful, try one each day. I couldn’t because I found the pastry hall the last day.

For young people as you it is interesting the City Park. There, you can see the Millennium Monument, the Museum of Fine Arts (szepmuveszeti museum), the Vajdahunyad Castle, the zoo, a circus, a Fair, and hot baths. The yellow metro line takes you there, station Hozok tere and Szechenyi
furdo.

The millennium monument is in Hosok Ter (platz) at the end of a very beautiful avenue, the Andrassy avenue, which goes with the yellow metro line.

On Muzeum Streeet where the Hungarian National Museum is located we found a very good turkish fast food restaurant.

In Budapest are also hot baths which are famous.

There are also many boat trips with different shows, jazz, classical, dances. All goes from the wharf. The tram 2 on the Pest side goes through all the wharfs
